We love statistics that compare male to female drivers (see our blog 'Battle of the Sexes' for proof on that), and this latest statistic is one we also find interesting.
The survey has shown that fathers are now going for smaller cars like the Ford Fiesta while mothers are choosing to drive MPV's and 4*4's like the BMW X5 according to a poll taken by the insurance company Aviva.
In the 1980's men were more keen in larger cars such as a Vauxhall Cavalier and a Ford Cortina while it was women who chose the smaller Ford Fiesta's and Mini's. This is also evident through the increase in sales of SUV's like the Range Rover Sport and other larger 4*4 vehicles.

Heather Smith, Aviva's car insurance Director said: "Thirty years ago the big saloon and the small 'runaround' sitting side by side outside Britain's family homes was a ubiquitous sight. Now you're more likely to see two Volkswagen Golfs or newer SUV/4x4 hybrids like the Nissan Qashqai and the Suzuki Grand Vitara sharing driveway space.
"As families' lives become more busy and complex, with two working parents and children to be dropped off at school, it appears multi-tasking mums need a vehicle fit for both work and family life while cost and fuel efficiency are increasingly important to dad."
This is an interesting time to looking for a vehicle to lease, with so many great SUV's, 4*4's and MPV's for ladies to chose from and some really cracking deals on smaller cars for men to chose from. However there is nothing wrong with a lady in a Fiesta or a guy in a Land Rover.
